Do You Have a Dream?

A Story That Inspires

Do You Have a Dream - a conversation by the sea about the dreams we keep on a shelf

Not just a wish, but a dream you're actively working toward.

You see, people today seem to spend a lot of time watching other people's lives, offering opinions, ideas, and solutions from the comfort of their homes, instead of focusing on their own problems and thinking about how to make their own lives better.

Among the hundreds of creators I usually watch while scrolling through social media, one creator stood out from the crowd because of one strange question...

Do you have a dream?

You see this guy, Simon Squibb, asking ordinary people this question in all kinds of different situations...

Many people looked at Simon Squibb with disbelief because no one had ever asked them that question before—especially not a complete stranger.

We are so trapped in our daily routines that having a dream can almost feel like a luxury—or perhaps like watching a movie. We can see it, we can imagine it, but deep down, we know it's not real. It's just a movie.

I experienced this myself while talking to a complete stranger in Cyprus.

I remember meeting a woman in Paphos, a city in Cyprus by the sea. I was walking around when I noticed an English lady who seemed friendly and open to having a conversation with a stranger. She was in her early sixties, with some gray hair, simple beach clothes, and greenish eyes with a touch of hazel.

I gathered the courage to say hello, and we sat down by the sea and started talking. Well, I think meeting a complete stranger is one of the best things you can do sometimes—sharing a few words, exchanging ideas, and escaping for a while from your daily thoughts and routines.

She said, "My dream is to rent a small house and come and stay here. I really like it here—the small towns, the friendly people, the nice food, everything." She spoke with feeling. It was obvious that she wasn't joking about it. Her voice was firm and full of conviction, and she told me all this while staring at the sea and occasionally looking at me.

I listened patiently and asked her a few questions. Finally, I said, "Well, if you want, I can help you. I used to work in real estate, and I could probably find you an affordable place to live and help you settle down."

She looked around with a surprised expression. She didn't say anything at first. Perhaps she was wondering why I would want to interrupt her "dream."

Finally, she said, "Well, this is just my dream. It's never going to happen. Ever!"

She just wanted to keep this idea as a dream, sitting on a shelf somewhere in the back of her mind.

I asked her, "Why? What is the problem?"

My new stranger-friend replied, "I have someone back home. It's not easy to just leave everything behind and come here."

I think her life in England wasn't that bad, and she wasn't willing to take the risk of changing her entire life, moving to another country, and starting again from scratch. And honestly, that is understandable.

💡 Sometimes the hardest part of pursuing a dream isn't knowing what you want. It's deciding what you're willing to give up to get it.

But now, let's leave that English lady behind and talk about you.

Are you moving toward the life you want—or are you standing still?

And here is the most important question...

Do you have a dream of your own that you want to experience in reality—or do you just want to keep it as a dream forever?
